Hilton Head Island

A day with no plans ...  off for a hike in Hilton Head at the nature reserve.

 Where's the alligators?
Best place to see one from.  No we didn't see any.

 Salt marshes at low tide

a little bit of moss and lots of clam shells

Lane spied this and was all excited - it's a palmetto frond from what I can tell.
Not alligator hair.

Walking the beach and finding lots of starfish and horsehead crabs

a little bit of sun for the sleeping babe

Each day there was a variety of events at the resort.  Pretty sure this was hamburger bbq night.

Sorry there are no food pictures mom.  It was delish though.

happy day

The Schwan man stopped by on his route tonight.  We don't always get stuff and tonight was one of those nights.  Mark wasn't home and I left Lane in the kitchen when I went to the door.  He gave me his specials and some coupons to use online for my next order cause you know that will get me to order next time... Lane wanted to know who it was and saying it was "Collin the Schwan man" didn't quite cut it.  He kept asking so I finally said the man who brings your broccoli.  Then he says "happy day"?  Yeah the "happy day" man.  Shouts of ice cream then started.  Happy day is another word for an ice cream cone.  We did get drumsticks over the summer and that was the night he'd get one to eat.  Happy Day comes from his favorite book "If You're Happy and You Know It" where a twist ice cream cone is shown on the page for twist around.  No other idea why he started calling ice cream cones happy day.  Being I was not in the mood for a battle he did get a happy day cone and I figured out he's not really after the ice cream, but the sugar cone as he started eating at the bottom.  He did listen when I told him he'd get all messy eating that way... remember last time.  Stinker.  He only got vanilla...  the pumpkin special is all mine!

bedtime antics

Right before we moved him to his new room this is what I found one day at naptime.  And yes that is a somersault in progress.  Something he learned at school?

In an attempt to get him to sleep in his new bed dad crawled in with him one night.  Guess who fell asleep first?  Not Lane.  Fortunately for me I can't crawl into bed with him the railing to keep him is to hard for me to climb over.  Mark has decided it's hard to climb over it too.

All snugged up on dad!  And out for the night.

This is not his bed - it's ours!  Notice the toys?  I didn't bring them in!  Lane did!
The smile is one of temporary victory.

This is his fake "I'm sleeping mom" pose.  He's not sleeping. But he's cute.

So last night we read stories, put on pj's and then had our "drink" of water.  All routine.  The drink is a new stall tactic.  Then he squirmed to get down as I was putting him in his bed and when I put him down he led me back to our room.  Ran over to the bed and said night-night and asked to be lifted up.  Ummm what?   Really cute and way too funny to not let him do it.  So we had about 10 minutes of goofing around time and then I told him it was time for bed in his own room.  Amazingly he agreed to go and went to sleep without a fuss.  We've had some success with the white noise machine.  He does like to push the buttons and last night it was crashing waves, which proved to be intesting.  Listening to tweeting songbirds was a failure.  Again not my choice of white noise!

little talker

Much talking this past week.  Some of my favorites are "don't do that mommy"... "don't do that daddy"... "no touch that" ... "what's that"..."where's daddy"... "don't do that"... "thank you mommy" (at least we have manners right?)...   "cookie"...  "I'm poopy" ... and this is before he's poopy, but putting him on the potty doesn't work yet either.  I did buy a special potty today and he was with me and got all excited and said "poopy" so he knows what it's for.  I don't expect him to use it anytime soon, but if he wants too that's great.
Lots of questions.  Lots.  And it's not just repeating what we say since he says "don't do that mommy" and it's not something he'd hear anyone else say.  He does call daddy "Mark" too.  It's hilarious and Mark doesn't like it.  I'm supposed to call Mark "daddy" now too so he stops.  Not working.
For the most part he is very clear in what he's saying with the exception of a few things.  No idea in those cases.  I think he's trying to tell me a story or about something that happened at school.  I'm quite excited that his little friend Patrick will be joining his class at school tomorrow.   We won't mention by name those moving up in the very near future, but I can't wait!
