paint job

Finished painting the nursery this weekend and it matches the fabric for the bedding perfectly. Now the colors are a little off and appear brighter in the pictures. The green is quite off actually. We took the high chair snagged from the side of the road for our trade in to Babies R Us today and got 25% off a crib. Slightly embarrassing as it was quite dirty and missing the chair pad, but I get the impression people do that quite a bit. Since they don't give out many coupons all is ok. It was part of their great trade in event and while their cribs never seem to be on sale I managed to really like one on clearance as an added bonus. It even matches the dressers I have for that room - double bonus. Need to go to another store to get the mattress at some point. Mark's parents are giving us the crib and mattress and my mom is making all the bedding - a total grandparent gift package if you ask me. Can't wait to see it all put together!

people of wally's world

Also known as Walmart. Rarely do we go there and usually when I do I wish I had my camera to take a picture of some awfully dressed person. Today was no exception and unfortunately the object I was fascinated by was pregnant - probably about 7 months so she had an obvious belly, but was in no danger of toppling over or anything. I thought I was the only person to be fascinated by her outfit of some sort of cartoon pajama pants with a hot pink band and a tight t-shirt pulled up on the belly, but I was not. As we were exiting the store the "greeter" who was about 25 had this odd look on his face. A look of WTF is that? Now at first I thought he was looking at Mark's "Michigan" t-shirt, but Mark commented on his look and he said "oh, no was I making a face?" and we both said yes. Then he starts laughing and said he was looking at that pregnant lady and I started laughing because I knew exactly who he was talking about and it was not me thank god. Thinking quickly I told him she belonged on the People of Wally's World website and he laughed and agreed. Seriously I don't know why people think they can go out in public like that pregnant or not her outfit was totally off the charts. If only I had a picture!

almost 25 weeks!

Monday is officially 25 weeks and the baby is getting bigger as is my stomach! While I was in Michigan the little hostesses of Kelley's wanted to know his name and well we have yet to choose one so I told them he was my little Buddy. Being 3 they had lots of cute questions. Such as... Does Buddy like chocolate? (no actually as it can cause heartburn) Does Buddy like watermelon? (of course!) What is Buddy doing now? (sleeping and growing - he does lots of growing) Does Buddy like this book? (of course) When can I see Buddy? (the next time I come visit Buddy will be excited to see them) and on and on - very funny. They even got brave enough to touch Buddy and found my stomach to be quite hard. If only he had kicked one of them. That would have been hilarious.
All is well otherwise and I feel fine just not in the mood to really eat as nothing sounds good and I'm only hungry in the morning. Actually that is Buddy who is hungry at 4:00 am and I usually don't get up then so he has to kick and punch until I get up at 6:00 am during the week. Hoping this warm weather heats our pool back up so I can enjoy that again this weekend. With all the rain we got while we were gone the pool is almost full to the top and a bit cooler.

nursery stuff

My mom is making the bedding and quilt for the nursery so this involved some picking of fabrics. I have a few pictures of baby animals for the room taken by a Michigan author and photographer to start with and finding this fabric was a perfect match. The colors even matched the paint I had started to put in the room - even the green. Pretty amazing. This requires the use of your imagination as they are not put together yet.

So these are the sheets - the frogs will be for daycare as the colors are a little off, but I loved the frogs and paisley lily pads too much to pass them up. Mark love the squirrel sheet fabric. I see they have blue polka dots online in this fabric line so they might be a good choice too.

These fabrics make up the bumper and skirt. Skirt is the little polka dots. Bumper is two sided with the animals on one side and the plaid ric rac on the other.

And this is the quilt fabric. The backing is the large animal print and the ric rac is the border of the front. It is turning out cute so far. Project for this weekend is to finish painting the nursery and pick out the window treatments. Most likely shades without cords as they are on sale at JCP. Also going crib shopping at Babies R Us. They are having a trade in sale and well we found some trade in's on our walk last night waiting for the garbage man OR people like us. Definitely not meant to be used by anyone. Yucky shape, but I'll allow them in my car to get a deal on a new crib! BRU doesn't seem to run sales so this is perfect timing.

catching up

Lots of catching up to do. Last week was Michigan week - first stop GR. Kelley has a little shower with some girlfriends from college and my first job. Amazing spread of food - of which I have no pictures of and lots of fun. I obviously need a new camera judging by the awful pictures, but they will have to do for now.

there has to be a perk?

To a middle of the night fire call or in this case 2 people hit by a train call. Nothing like that to roll you out of bed and think lots of blood and guts. I was very grossed out and didn't bother asking for any details when Mark got home. Did not want to know. Fortunately no one was hit after all, but they spent several hours looking in the weeds for them until the black box could be viewed. The video showed they were missed by mere inches. Idiots!
But back to the perk from my view... Mark was hungry afterwards and I'm guessing it was around 4:30 am and he paid a visit to Dunkin Donuts. Never one to resist a deal he got 6 donuts for $3 or something like that and of course what is a hungry girl to do? Let them go stale? No way! I had two for breakfast - go ahead gag - but in my defense both contained fruit. One was cherry filled and the other was a round blueberry one. High nutritional value - not! Much easier than cooking this morning though and cooking is not something I do these days if I am actually going to eat it. gag.
Mark is on cook detail for now and is doing very good. Last night we got to go out to Outback and it was quite yummy. Baked potato and a little filet. More potato than anything. The only other thing I really want to eat is a real taco - a ground beef taco. Maybe for lunch? That might mean I have to go grocery shopping since someone is still sleeping! I'm fine with the sleeping part, but the part where I have to go into the grocery store and face the meat section is not ok. He is doing good with the cooking and I had a very tasty BLT for lunch yesterday. He is more than capable thank goodness. Not only did he have the fire call half the night, but he painted the basement walls and part of the garage yesterday. Will work on pictures today of his handy work and also the partially done nursery. Oh and maybe me! LOL!

Someone likes the cats...

...maybe more than me and it's the baby. Every morning that we don't get up before the alarm the cat alarm goes off. It's the "feed me" meow alarm and really it's quite annoying at times when they do it at 5:15 am. Fun to ignore them to see what happens, which is what we did today. They got quite irrate and then I noticed that the baby was kicking each time Mani meowed. He can be quite loud. Mark talking to the baby does not have the same effect. So either the baby likes the cat meowing or is annoyed and displays that by kicking me.
We'll take some pictures this weekend - promise! I have some new clothes that I can model!

21 Weeks!

All was well at my appointment today. I actually got in early and of course the whole appointment lasted about 3 minutes. Suppose that's a good thing. Nothing exciting to report - at all. Boring. Next appointment in one month and I'm seeing one of the other doctors there so I can get a feel for who they are as well.
I was given the green light to buy a few more "cute" maternity shirts this morning. My long polo from JCP makes me look "fat" according to Mark. I would say more "frumpy" than anything. So off to shop I go! I like the scrunchy sided tops that are more form fitting anyway. Holding off anymore pants until it's pant season again. I only have 2 pairs of long pants and one is at the kick line so those are out for now. Baby needs to flip around! Shorts and capri's are fine for now because it's still quite hot out. We went swiming last night around 8:00 and I swear it was freezing in the pool. It's 82! Guess I'm getting whimpy. Still stayed in and swam for a bit and it did warm up after a while.

linen

what one item can you skip over in the maternity section? LINEN! Do you need to know why?
a. it doesn't stretch!
b. it requires ironing after every wash and wear
c. it makes you look even more frumpy?

want a picture? ha. you will just have to wait until I wear them next.
They were a steal at $12 at Target. Depends on how many more times I wear them I guess.

Save your money and go hit Kohl's maternity section. Just saying.

Farmer's Market Score!

Our favorite veggie farmer at the farmer's market is now all organic and supplies Whole Food Markets - yay for us. We get the same great veggies at a very low price. This week I scored all this for $20! Heirloom tomatoes, cukes, garlic, onions, cabbage, red skinned potatoes, jalapenos, carrots and corn. It took 2 trips to the car because I also got homemade jams and grass fed beef.

This was my prize! A Brandywine tomato! The little red one next to it is like the kind you get at the supermarket -average size and bigger than a kitty head! They are so good!
