So I guess eating lots of bad stuff doesn't necessarily lead to diabetes. Our cat is fed a diet of cat food - no treats really and this is not my cat that likes ice cream, yogurt and whippy cream either - it's ms. picky, Cali. She was eating like a piglet and drinking a lot of water and still not getting fat so off to the vet she went on Tuesday. They sent her home after lab work and called us Wednesday to bring her back right away. Her sugar was over 400! In humans that's high so in cats it must be too.
So she has bought herself a mini-vacation at cat camp while we are on vacation! They will regulate her insulin and then we get training on how to give that daily shot when we get home. I would must prefer a daily shot to a daily pill.
So no more treats for her! Mani will hopefully enjoy being the "only" cat for our house sitters to dote on!

Must be all those Little Debbie's I used to feed her while cat sitting.
